Senior Research Scientist in LDP - Laval

The Research and Development centre of Boehringer Ingelheim (Canada) Ltd., located in the greater Montreal area, is a leader in antiviral drug discovery.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Research Scientist to join our Chemistry team. The candidate will work in close collaboration with multidisciplinary drug discovery teams (molecular and structural biology, pharmacology, computational chemistry, structural research and drug discovery support) to identify novel therapeutic agents for the treatment of viral diseases.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a Parallel Chemistry Team within the Lead Discovery and Parallel Chemistry group. The candidate will be involved in the implementation of a parallel chemistry platform including the library design, automated library synthesis and purification of new entities for biological evaluation.  This requires the use of modern methods of organic synthesis and application of current medicinal chemistry thinking and parallel chemistry technologies.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. / Post-doc (or equivalent) in chemistry.  It is essential that prospective candidates can demonstrate at least 5 year’s relevant pharmaceutical research experience and demonstrate experience of working in multi-disciplinary and matrix teams.

Candidates should possess expert knowledge of reagents, reaction conditions, work up procedures, retrosynthesis, parallel chemistry and have an excellent up-to-date knowledge of medicinal chemistry principles and practice.

Candidates should possess expert knowledge of parallel chemistry including library design, monomer selection, protocol development, automated synthesis, plate based synthesis, sparse matrix synthesis, high throughput purification, submission for biological testing and multiple dimension SAR interpretation.

Candidates must also have expertise in database searching e.g., use of Scifinder and Beilstein and have skills in data analysis and problem solving, including being able to demonstrate effective decision making on chemistry and target design.

We are looking for people who are good communicators and able to influence colleagues and supervisors through the use of both persuasive written and oral skills.  Candidates must demonstrate effective planning and time management skills and the ability to work well in teams.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate effective supervision and motivation of staff.  The ability to communicate in both French and English is highly desirable.
