How is COPD diagnosed
Many cases of COPD go undiagnosed because people assume that their
limited breathing is simply a sign of aging. None of the above symptoms
should be taken lightly or be seen as a normal part of getting older. To
diagnose COPD your doctor will examine your symptoms, family and smoking
history, and assess the results of your full physical exam. Part of the exam involves
a breathing test, called spirometry, which is used to measure the strength of your exhalations.
