Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain

How is DPNP diagnosed?

Talk to your doctor or other healthcare professional about your symptoms. Your doctor will then perform a physical exam and check your blood pressure, heart rate, muscle strength, reflexes and sensitivity to position changes, vibration, temperature or light touch.

It’s a good idea for people with diabetes to have a full foot exam every year to check for DPNP. If you have already been diagnosed, then you should have your feet examined more frequently to check the condition of your skin, muscles, bones, circulation and sensation.

Your doctor may also suggest you see a specialist, such as an endocrinologist or a neurologist.
