What causes Diabetic Nerve Pain?
Diabetic nerve damage can affect people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. No one yet knows exactly what causes the nerve damage. Having high blood sugar (glucose) levels over time is likely to be involved as patients who do not or cannot control their blood sugar very well seem more likely to get DPN. While diabetic nerve pain can occur at any time, those who have had diabetes for a long time may be more likely to develop the painful symptoms.
